Police in Mombasa have arrested 12 teachers with Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination content they had allegedly shared in a social media group.

Mombasa DCIO Zack Nangulu said officers arrested the 12 Star of the Sea Primary School teachers on Wednesday morning following intelligence reports on a massive KCPE exam leakage at the school.

“As early as 6am, a group of policemen was sent to the school before the candidates began to sit for their exams to make the arrests,” said Mr Nangulu at a press briefing in his office.

Mr Nangulu said upon checking the teachers' WhatsApp group, police "found shared examination papers of Mathematics, English and Composition that appeared similar to the KCPE exam that had already been done a day ago”.

“The arrest was then done and their phones were confiscated to enable police (to) continue with more investigations to establish the source of the leakage,” said the DCIO.

It is alleged the teachers had shared the exams among themselves in order to brief their pupils that morning before they sat the exams.

By Wednesday evening, Mr Nangulu said police had not yet established the source of the exam leakage.
