A woman has been injured by a stray bullet following a confrontation between boda boda riders and police in Likoni, Mombasa County.

A police officer has also been wounded.

The woman, identified as Emily Akinyi, was hit in the abdomen by the bullet when police tried to disperse rowdy boda boda operators who had stormed a police station.

The more than 300 riders had gone to the station after their colleagues were nabbed in an early morning crackdown.

Police are currently engaged in running battles with the rogue operators, paralysing transport and business in the area.
