22 arrested in crackdown on Mombasa 'buibui' gang

Police on Thursday night arrested 22 suspects in Old Town, Mombasa County in a crackdown on a gang that has been terrorising residents.

This is after five people were mugged Thursday morning by a gang armed with knives.

Mombasa Deputy County Commissioner Salim Mahmoud said two suspects were found with pangas, knives and narcotics.

“We are appealing to the parents in Old Town to volunteer information regarding their children who are involved in crime,” he said.

He urged residents to give information on other members of the gang to the police.

He assured tourist and visitors that security in Mombasa has been beefed up.
