Normal business has resumed at Central Police Station, Mombasa, where three female terrorists were shot dead on Sunday.

Police officers and ordinary people walked in and out of the station, with no signs that much had been done to beef up security.

When the Nation visited the place at 10.30am, officers were cleaning the front office desk.

Part of the desk and the occurrence book were burnt when one of the women attempted to set herself and the station on fire. The book has since been replaced.

Two officers injured in the attack are being treated at an undisclosed hospital.

“I came to follow up on a mobile phone theft case. I reported it yesterday but was told to come today. However, I have been asked to wait since the place is still being cleaned,” a man outside the reporting office said.

However, security at major installations was heightened. At Nakumatt Likoni supermarket, the number of uniformed officers was increased.

Armed officers manned the entrance to Moi International Airport. Mr Tom Otieno, the OCPD, said security at the airport was always tight.

“We are on a high alert because the airport is a high threat area,” he said.
