What you need to know:

  • Mr Duale said strategies to subjugate Kenya by funding the civil rights groups will fail.
  • The MP said there was nothing new since the ASP was affirming a 2013 resolution that stipulated that the amendment was no to affect the cases facing Mr Ruto and Mr Sang.
  • The majority leader at the same time said the recent attack in Paris proved to the world that terrorism is not peculiar to Africa.
  • Mr Duale said Parliament will on Tuesday receive the names of the new Cabinet secretaries appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta for vetting.

National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale has criticised the European Union and their allies and asked them to “stop meddling in Kenya’s affairs” through the civil society.

Speaking during a fundraiser in aid of Mombasa Muslim Integrated Secondary School Saturday, Mr Duale claimed the West is using civil societies to drive their agenda against Kenya.

Executive Director of Africa Centre for Open Governance Gladwell Otieno, last week accused government of pushing for withdrawal of rule 68 in the crime against humanity cases facing the Deputy President William Ruto and Joshua Sang at the International Criminal Court.

Rule 68 allows the court to use evidence against a suspect, which witnesses have denounced.

The organisation also accused the media of “misreporting” that Kenya had succeeded in pushing their agenda at the Assembly of States Parties (ASP) when it was agreed that the rule should not be used retroactively in the two cases.

“The case we had was if recanted evidence can be used against an accused person. The Deputy President and Mr Sang are on their way to freedom.

“Those who feel otherwise can ‘swallow a razor blade’. Kenya can never be subject to European Union imperialism. They must respect Kenya as a sovereign state,” Mr Duale said.

SUBJUGATE KENYA

Mr Duale, who is also the Member of Parliament for Garissa Township, said strategies to subjugate Kenya by funding the civil rights groups will fail.

The MP said there was nothing new since the ASP was affirming a 2013 resolution that stipulated that the amendment was no to affect the cases facing Mr Ruto and Mr Sang.

The majority leader at the same time said the recent attack in Paris proved to the world that terrorism is not peculiar to Africa.

Mr Duale said Parliament will on Tuesday receive the names of the new Cabinet secretaries appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta for vetting.

Earlier, Changamwe MP Omar Mwinyi had criticised the Jubilee administration for negotiating with Evanson Waitiki to give out his 930 acre farm for resettlement of about 10,000 people instead of attending to the Likoni ferry crisis.

However, Mr Duale said it was hypocritical for the MP to raise the matter in such a forum when he has never done it at the Budget committee meetings, yet he is a member.

He asked the electorate not to re-elect Jubilee if they fail to deliver on their promises by 2017.

More than Sh10 million was raised during the funds drive.
