A fierce fire has razed a section of Kenya Ferry Services (KFS) offices in Mombasa.

The early morning inferno burned the resource centre which houses the offices of the company's safety officer and principal engineer, according KFS officials.

Likoni OCPD Benjamin Rotich said the cause of the fire was yet to be established and investigations have been launched.

But according to a senior officer at the facility, the fire was caused by an electric fault.

KFS Managing Director Bakari Gowa said some of the items that were reduced to ashes were office furniture and computers that are used in the offices.

He said the centre is mostly used for meetings by the company's staff.

"We want to get more details on the same but our officers suspect it was caused by an electric fault," said Mr Gowa.

The offices are located at the mainland side of the Likoni crossing channel.
