Omar picks Linda Shuma as Mombasa running mate

Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar, who will be vying for the county’s governorship on a Wiper party ticket, has unveiled a hotelier, Ms Linda Mariwa Shuma, as his running mate.

Mr Omar named Ms Shuma at a colourful ceremony at Sarova Whitesands Beach Resort Monday morning.

Born in 1978, Ms Shuma describes herself as being “passionate about being an agent of positive change in society, mainly through mentoring”.

“I am an excellent communicator with a network that cuts across societal divides,” she said.

She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in International Business Administration (IBA).

WOMEN EMPOWERMENT

She is also a co-founder and programme administrator of Women and Girls Empowerment (Wage) a community based organisation.

The Mombasa senator pledged that if elected governor, his government will have 50 per cent women representation.

Mr Omar will face incumbent Governor Hassan Joho of ODM, businessman Suleiman Shahbal (Jubilee Party) and Nyali MP Hezron Awiti (Vibrant Democratic Party).

Mr Shahbal has picked former Kisauni MP Ananiah Mwaboza as his running mate while Mr Awiti settled on a banker, Hassan Bakari Mwamtoa.

Although Mr Joho, is yet to officially announce his preferred deputy, he is said to have chosen Pwani University lecturer William Kingi.

Mr Anderson Chibule Watsuma also wants to be Mombasa county boss as an independent candidate.
