  • Court heard settlement of the dispute between ports authority and Autoports Freight Terminals was not dependent on the State body alone.

The Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) is yet to enter into a settlement with a freight firm regarding a dispute over nomination of containers to the firm, a court heard.

The court heard settlement of the dispute between KPA and Autoports Freight Terminals was not dependent on the State firm alone. Lawyer Billy Kongere, representing KPA, told Justice Anyara Emukule that many "players" including the authority’s parent ministry are involved.

Autoports Freight Terminal Ltd is associated with Mombasa Governor Hassan Ali Joho’s family.

“It is taking time to have all players meet. There are efforts in the background to enable a meeting in order to present a proposal,” said Mr Kongere.

The lawyer urged the court to give them one more month to report the progress made. Autoports lawyer Mr Paul Buti did not object to the request by KPA.

“Today (yesterday) we expected to record a statement, I have no hesitation in allowing further negotiations,” said Mr Buti adding that the negotiations will save each parties time.
