The High Court in Mombasa has summoned two police officers whom DPP Keriako Tobiko recommended be charged with the murder of 14-year-old Kwekwe Mwandaza.

Judge Maureen Odero directed that summons be issued to the two officers through the Kwale DCIO and the matter be mentioned on October 13, 2014.

Senior prosecuting counsel Alexander Muketi moved to the High Court to apply for the two to be summoned to appear in court to be charged with murder.

Despite the directive by the DPP, the two have not been produced in court.

They are still serving in Kwale County.

“The DPP directed they be charged with murder. I request this court to issue summons through the Kwale Country criminal investigations officer so that the accused persons (can) appear in court,” said Mr Muketi.

The case will be mentioned on Monday.

Kwekwe’s mother, Ms Umazi Zani, has complained about what she sees as the slow pace of bringing to justice her daughter’s killers.

She is currently on a seven-day hunger strike in her bid to push the authorities to speed up the case.
