The family of a 15-year-old boy who was shot and injured by police cannot raise Sh7,000 for crutches.

Ronald Baya, a Standard Seven pupil at Jolarabi Primary School, has missed school for more than two weeks because his family has been unable to buy him crutches.

“I am so sad when I see my friends walking to school every morning,” said the teenager.

The boy was shot on May 9 as police dispersed squatters from Utange1 settlement land in Shanzu, Mombasa County.

He said a police officer in civilian clothing shot at him as he disembarked from a motorcycle that was caught up in chaos between police and the squatters.

Baya’s mother, Mrs Shirlety Kitsao, who is the breadwinner since her husband got an accident, said the fate of her son lies on the hands of Good Samaritans.
