'Nation' sports journalist bags award for exemplary work

Veteran Nation sports journalist Abdulrahman Sheriff was on Sunday feted by the World Tong-IL Moo-Do Federation for his contribution towards popularising the sport around the world.

The Nation Media Group Limited was also recognised for providing wider coverage of the sport activities through its various platform including Daily Nation, Taifa Leo, Mwanaspoti and NTV.

World Tong-IL Moo-Do Federation Vice President and Secretary General Master Takamitsu Hoshiko said Mr Sheriff, 66, has been exceptional in his coverage of the sport making it well known around the world.

“Tong-IL Moo-Do has turned to be a popular sport in Kenya because of proper management and wider coverage of Mr Sheriff and Nation Media Group Limited,” said Mr Hoshiko while awarding a plaque and medal to the veteran journalist.

Mr Sheriff was awarded alongside Standard Group Limited Journalists Ernest Ndunda and Moses Baya at the Aga Khan Academy during the third edition of the Mombasa open Tong-IL Moo-Do International Martial Arts Championship.

Mr Hoshiko who was accompanied the President of the Kenya Tong-IL Moo-Do Federation, Clarence Mwakio praised Kenya for taking the sport seriously adding that it has led to several of its players winning many golds, silvers and medals.

“Kenya has taken its place in this sport and that is why its players have shown a lot of good performance against other competing nations,” he added.

Kenya has so far won six gold, 10 silver and eight bronze medals with the event expected to end last evening.
