President Uhuru Kenyatta has said no one will stop him from fulfilling pledges he made while he sought to be elected, insisting he is not in any competition at the moment.

The president said he will not be intimidated by any leader as he initiates and implements development projects across the country, adding that Kenyans must drop political differences and work together to develop the country.

“I am not in competition with any governor, any MP or any other elected leader. No one will stop me from doing what Kenyans elected me to do,” said President Kenyatta.

The President was speaking at Mtwapa town, Kilifi County, where he stopped to address residents on Tuesday.

He cited the issuance of title deeds in Likoni and Lamu, the launch of the construction of the Port Reitz-Moi International access road, the commissioning of the Sh46 million water project in Faza, the launch of the national street lighting project and the construction of the Sh573 million Baricho water project as some of the developments he has presided over during his visit to the Coast as some of the work he is doing.

“The government is to serve 40 million Kenyans, not a section of Kenyans, irrespective of the one they elected or political party they are in. They still need and rightfully deserve services from the government,” President Kenyatta said.

Kilifi South MP Mustafa Idd thanked President Kenyatta for the street lighting project while he warned area Governor Amason Kingi that he will mobilise locals not to pay taxes should Mr Kingi’s administration fail to pay for power bills of the street lights recently launched by the president.

National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale said “Jubilee is an action-oriented Government that will not be distracted by the noise from the Opposition”.

Duale took issue with Governor Kingi, saying he did not have to go “all the way to Nairobi” to hold a press conference on the President’s visit.

He said the next General Election will not be based on political rhetoric but the actual development, which according to him, the Government has implemented.

Coast Parliamentary Group Chairman Gideon Mung’aro, who is also the Kilifi North MP, said Mr Kingi should stop panicking as the President is in Coast for development and not politics.

Other leaders who spoke were MPs Naomi Shaban (Taveta) and Gonzi Rai (Kinango), Senators Emma Mbura (nominated), Mike Sonko (Nairobi) and Ali Bure (Tana River), among others.
