Mombasa school cleaned up ahead of KCPE exams

Youths and parents have cleaned St Mary's Primary School in Bangladesh slum which was smeared with faeces by protesters last Thursday.

The faeces were smeared on walls and desks to prevent the repeat presidential polls from taking place in the school.

Speaking about the clean-up, Father Gabriel Dolan, a Catholic priest said everything was okay and they were ready for the examinations.

"We want our children to sit for examination in a good environment. What we did will not affect them," added one of the parent who only identified himself as Agwanda.

Abdikadir Kike who is the regional education coordinator confirmed that the school was clean and pupils were ready for their KCPE.

REHEARSALS

Standard Eight candidates at the school joined others in rehearsals for the national exams which start tomorrow.

Some 202 candidates are to sit for the exams at St Mary’s while another 17 will do it at St Francis Kibarani.

At the Aga Khan Primary School, the headteacher warned candidates against engaging in any examination malpractices.

Speaking during the rehearsals on Monday morning, Mr Christopher Owino, said he expects the pupils to do well in the exams.

“Our core values do not allow us to engage in cheating and we can’t do it. Teachers and parents have supported us throughout this journey and the students have been disciplined,” he said.
