Mombasa businessman Chege Gitau shot dead in Tudor

A Mombasa businessman was Monday night shot dead by unknown assailants outside his house in Tudor, Mvita Sub-County.

The man who was identified as Chege Gitau was gunned down at around 9.30pm.

Mr Gitau was a clearing and forwarding agent at the Mombasa port, according to police reports.

Police say at least eight bullets were sprayed into his car as he was getting to the gate of his home.

The assailants arrived in a white car, alighted and confronted Mr Gitau, spraying him with bullets.

"A man got out of the car holding a paper which was carrying the gun which he used to shoot the driver (Mr Gitau)," said an eyewitness.

An unidentified man was caught up in the crossfire and hit by a stray bullet injuring him, according to Mombasa Urban OCPD Lucas Ogara.

Mr Ogara said they have launched a manhunt for the killers.

"We are yet to know the motive of his killing but our officers are currently on the ground following up the matter," said Mr Ogara

His killing came a day after a nurse was murdered in Likoni on Saturday night and his body dumped in Senti Kumi.
