Police have taken to court two wanted suspects who had surrendered to them in Mombasa on Wednesday.

On Thursday, the police asked the court to detain the suspects for five days to allow officers to complete their investigations.

The suspects — Abdulkarim Mzee, aka Abdul, and Swaleh Ramadhan — were on Wednesday handed over to County Commissioner Nelson Marwa by the group Muslims for Human Rights.

The two said they were innocent.

Two other suspects, Kayuni Khatib Khamisi and Farah Abdi Farah, had earlier surrendered themselves to the police for interrogation, with Mr Khamisi due to appear in court on Thursday afternoon.

COAST KILLINGS

The four are some of the seven suspects whose names and images were published by the Sunday Nation, and who police believe to be members of a gang behind the wave of killings at the Coast.

Last weekend, Director of Criminal Investigations Ndegwa Muhoro said police were circulating the identities of Ismael Shosi Mohammed, Mr Mahir Khalid Riziki, Fauz Omar Mohamed and the four who have since surrendered because they wanted help from the public to track them down.

The security agents warned that the men, who they say are returnees from Somalia, were armed, dangerous and well trained in weaponry and intelligence tactics.
