Crackdown nets 11 ‘notorious criminals’ in Mombasa

At least 11 members of a notorious criminal group, which has been terrorising Mombasa residents, have been arrested in an ongoing crackdown.

Among those arrested is a Mr Nassir Sogomo, who was picked up in Majengo on Monday night.

Mombasa County Commissioner Nelson Marwa said the youths were giving police crucial information that could lead to more arrests.

Mr Marwa claimed that Mr Sogomo is a very dangerous criminal, who has been training others.

“He has given us crucial information, which will lead to more arrests,” he said Tuesday during a security meeting at Old Port in Old Town.

He said a multi-agency security team was profiling the youths before they are charged later this week.

The county commissioner also urged a Mr Wakali Kwanza and Mr Wakazi Wao to surrender.

Mr Marwa revealed that the gang leaders behind crimes in Majengo and Old Town as Mr Sogomo and Mr Luqman Khatib, who was arrested on October 21.

He named Mr Nurdin Khamisi and Mr Jamal Rashid as among the most-wanted criminals.

They are suspected to have joined Al-Shabaab.
