Magistrate issues warrant for suspected MRC members

The court had been told that the accused had been within the court's premises in the morning but left.

A Mombasa magistrate has issued a warrant of arrest against nine suspected members of the Mombasa Republican Council (MRC) after they failed to appear in court on Tuesday.

Senior Resident Magistrate Viola Yator issued the order for the nine, who are charged with consorting with MRC leader Omar Mwamnuadzi.

The court had been told that the accused had been within the court's premises in the morning but left.

The court had fixed the case for mentioning on Tuesday to allow Nairobi Senator Mike Mbuvi to produce Mr Mwamnuadzi, whom he had stood surety for.

A warrant of arrest had been issued against the MRC leader almost eight months ago and has been in existence since then.

The court has now scheduled the case for mentioning on April 7.
