A magistrate court in Murang'a town has issued a warrant of arrest against Kandara MP Alice Wahome for failing to obey court summons.

The MP had been summoned in court for blocking traffic police officers mid last year and preventing them from discharging their duties in her constituency.

Murang'a County Police Commander Naomi Ichami reported that Ms Wahome used her position in the society to obstruct National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) officials during a traffic operation.

The incident happened in Makenji area in June, 2016 when the officers were enforcing traffic law on road users to curb accidents and eliminate unroadworthy vehicles.

Ms Ichami told Nation that police have already launched manhunt for the lawmaker.

"She knowingly and willingly obstructed the officers and motorists who had been found to have offended law were released. That was abuse of office," said the police boss.

Ms Ichami said that since then the MP had been summoned in court severally over the incident but she has never appeared.

"She has failed to appear in court severally since last year despite the summons. We are looking for her and once found she will be arrested and produced in court. But she can present herself voluntarily," said Ms Ichami.
