Police in Murang’a seize bhang worth Sh300,000, arrest three

Police in Murang’a Town have arrested three young people, among them a 19-year-old girl, with bhang worth Sh300,000.

In an intensified operation against drug dealers, police arrested the three suspects and recovered a haul of bhang stashed in bags in Milimani estate, Maragua Constituency.

Samuel Kimani, 22, Patrick Ndung’u, 22, and Beth Wanjiku, 19, were arrested when they were found in the house packing the bhang in packets and rolls ready for sale.

Also confiscated were electronics found in the house which included a 32-inch television set and a home theatre system.

The items were confiscated for lack of documentation.

SUPPLIER ON THE RUN

The arrests come after one week of intensive surveillance on one notorious supplier identified as Alex Macharia following information provided by the National Intelligence Service.

According to Murang’a South OCPD Paul Wanjama, the notorious supplier is still on the run but police are still hunting for him as they have all information about him.

He is said to have been selling the narcotics for a very long time and supplies to peddlers in Murang’a County.

MORE SUSPECTS SOUGHT

Mr Wanjama added that they have four names of other suspects of drug trafficking whom they hope to arrest soon.

He said the three suspects who have been arrested had various cases pending in court including possession of bhang.

“We know them all. The three, including the main suspect have previously been arrested but released on bond. Their cases are still ongoing,” said the OCPD.

He urged the public not to shy away from sharing information with the police so as to get rid of peddlers and improve security.

The suspects were taken to Maragua Police Station and will be arraigned in court.
