Thugs raid coffee factory

  • The incident comes barely a week after another theft at a coffee factory in the neighboring Maragua constituency.
  • One suspect was lynched and his body set ablaze by angry residents of Kamahuha area in Murang’a South on Tuesday last week.

Coffee worth Sh700, 000 has been stolen from a coffee factory in Murang’a County.

The suspects made away with 60 bags of parchment (dry coffee) at Gatitu coffee factory in Kandara constituency on Wednesday.

Tied up three watchmen

According to Mr Sammy Guchu Gitau, a company official, the thugs gained access to the factory through the fence and tied up three watchmen.

Reports indicate that the thieves struck at around 2am.

“I am told they then proceeded to pack the coffee and packed it in a getaway lorry parked outside the store,” area chief Ferdinand Mwaniki Ng’ang’a said.

One of the watchmen later managed to untie himself and sound the alarm.

Recorded statements

Area deputy OCPD Juma Londo confirmed the incident and said the three watchmen had recorded statements at Kandara Police Station.

The incident comes barely a week after another theft at a coffee factory in the neighboring Maragua constituency.

One suspect was lynched and his body set ablaze by angry residents of Kamahuha area in Murang’a South on Tuesday last week.

Another escaped with cuts and bruises and police are said to be searching for him.
