Artists to feature in awareness drive conference

Young and Upcoming artists are set to perform in the 7th Edition of the International Conference on Peer Education, Sexuality, HIV and Aids.

The conference set for June 15-17 will host more than 1000 delegates at the KICC.

Zetech University is among the teams expected to entertain the delegates. This year, they emerged the overall best during the Kenya National Drama Festivals, beating seasoned competitors in the university category.

The University secured the number one spot in five categories, receiving 40 certificates in the special awards category.

They will present their award winning choral. As a result of their prowess, the prolific team has performed for the President and other government officials at State House.

Other teams expected to entertain the audience include Kwacha Africa, State Level Production, Masafa, U-Tena, T-Broz, and Golden Tunes.

The conference, organized by National Organization of Peer Educators aims to use performing arts to demonstrate key issues in HIV prevention, the subject of sexual reproductive health, dealing with Peer Pressure and general entertainment.

ARTISTS SHOULD LEAD THE PATH
According to National Organization of Peer Educators (NOPE) executive director, Philip Waweru, the theme of the conference is “Towards zero new HIV infections, zero deaths, zero stigma and zero discrimination”.

“The International delegates will share experiences challenges and lessons learnt in the journey” Mr Waweru said
“It is everyone’s business to step up the bold steps towards ensuring that we have zero new infections” he said.

Peter Onyancha, who works as a Senior Programme officer in National Organization of Peer Educators states that artists should lead the path to information through creative renditions.

Onyancha said the conference is open to youths, teens, professionals, academic programmes and special populations.

“The Conference will bring together more than 1,000 delegates from more than 10 Countries in the Eastern and Southern African regions and beyond, to discuss HIV programming progress, key innovations, key sessions from HIV programming experts, people living with HIV and donor agencies.

Through this conference, delegates will contribute to the development of a roadmap, which will guide future HIV responses and the implementation processes of the same, while also building leadership skills of young people.
