At least two vehicles were burnt in Nairobi’s central business district Wednesday evening and one person injured following skirmishes between city county askaris and Gor Mahia football fans.

The incident happened along Moi Avenue near the Kencom bus stop after the rowdy crowd turned violent and reigned terror on a city county pickup that they encountered on their way.

“They were trying to set the pickup on fire but when it turned out to be a challenge they turned it upside down and then descended on the nearest car belonging to a civilian.

The car has been burnt beyond recognition,” explained the Nairobi Central deputy OCPD Kiprotich Beren.

He said the driver of the City County pickup truck was also roughed up and stoned by the crowd which included street hawkers.

He sustained an injury on his ear and was rushed to hospital for treatment.

The football enthusiasts had marched to City Hall earlier in the evening to protest an incident in which one of them was allegedly hit and injured by a county vehicle, but were dissatisfied with the failure by City hall officials to address them.
