The Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company announced on Tuesday that the water levels at Ndakaini Dam — main city supplier — was at 31 per cent full and that residents will start enjoying normal supply by April.

This is as a result of rains being experienced in the Aberdares with the water agency exuding confidence its rationing programme will be actualized.

Speaking during the flagging off of five excavators bought by the agency at a cost of Sh54 million, board chairman Raphael Nzomo said that the weatherman had assured them of sufficient rains.

However, he said that the major challenge they are facing is loss of revenue due to bursting of water pipes, leakages and illegal connections.

He added that the water agency was in the process of drilling boreholes to help in easing pressure on Ndakaini especially during drought seasons.

Speaking at the same event, NCWS managing Director Eng Philip Gichuki said that the company has been carrying out the water rationing according to schedule despite complaints by some city residents.
