A Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) Member of the County Assembly (MCAs) has come to the defence of Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero over allegations of corruption, accusing the anti-graft body of incompetence instead.

The Cord MCA also accused the Jubilee administration of diverting the corruption heat to counties, saying the government has failed in taming the vice.

Speaking to Nation.co.ke on phone, the Majority Chief Whip David Mberia said that the move to implicate Dr Kidero in corrupt deals was a ploy to divert attention from the embarrassment created by revelations of massive stealing at the National Youth Service (NYS).

Mr Mberia said that the latest move by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (Eacc) to investigate Dr Kidero’s bank accounts was meant to force Opposition chief Raila Odinga to comment on the matter.

“The way Jubilee government is fighting graft is just laughable. They are not serious,” said Mr Mberia.

He said that the Eacc had displayed double standards while performing its mandate since they had not inquired on either Ms Anne Waiguru accounts or Aden Duale’s and those implicated in the NYS scandal but were busy hunting for Dr Kidero.

“Let Eacc stop protecting the allies of the government since it has failed miserably in ending graft and be an independent body as it should be,” said Mberia.

Mr Mberia added that the governor Kidero has always been alleged to be corrupt yet he has never been prosecuted for any of the said graft claims.

Kidero has been on the spotlight in the past few months after claims emerged that he had bribed supreme Judge Philip Tunoi Sh200million during the hearing of an election petition against Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu.

The Governor has also been mentioned in the plunder of Mumias Sugar Factory.

On Tuesday Dr Kidero got reprieve after a court halted investigations into his bank account and that of his wife.
