Nairobi County Government has launched a crackdown on illegal car wash businesses in the city with ten being shut down on Thursday.

Those targeted are in Kileleshwa, Lavington and Yaya.

The owners whose premises were closed down protested on the roads burning tyres and harassing motorists but were directed by police to take their protests to City Hall.

City Hall has deployed 700 inspectorate officers to deal with illegal garbage dumping, hawkers, traffic regulations violations, boda boda menace, illegal structures, illegal car washes, loud music from bars in residential areas, street families and illegal roadside eateries.

The deputy Governor Jonathan Mueke said that the illegal car wash business was a ticking bomb waiting to explode in the city estates.

“The rate at which car wash business is growing along the roads is worrying if the county just sits around doing nothing,” said Mr Mueke.
