Members of the public early Thursday morning burnt to death four people they suspected of killing a motorcycle operator at Githurai 44 in Nairobi.

The four, according to Kasarani OCPD Francis Sang, were roughed up, pulled from their house and lynched by boda boda operators and members of the public.

On Tuesday night, the four together with two others who escaped the Thursday lynching are said to have stabbed to death the motorcyclist and taken away his motorbike.

A witness said one of the suspects was approached by boda boda operators, who beat him before asking him to show them where the others were. He said the suspects were beaten in turns before their bodies were put together and burnt.

“They took them to one point and beat them to death before setting their bodies on fire,” said the witness, Zack Omondi, who is also a boda boda rider.

He said the four were well known for attacking boda boda riders. They pretend to be clients before stealing money and motorcycles from their victims.

RISER FOUND DEAD

“On Tuesday night one boda boda rider was found dead near the northern bypass after three people asked him to carry them on his motorbike,” he said.

He claimed the operators had reported the gang to police on several occasions but no one had been arrested.

The Kasarani police boss asked members of the public to surrender to police people they suspected to be criminals so that necessary legal action could be taken against them.

He said the police received information about the lynching long after the suspects had been killed and burnt.

"The bodies were burnt beyond recognition during the 5am incident. By the time police arrived, all of them had died." Mr Sang said, adding that their remains were taken to City Mortuary.

ANOTHER SUSPECT LYNCHED

The incident comes just a day after another mob lynched a suspect in Jerusalem Estate in Buruburu Division, Nairobi.

The suspect is said to have been in the company of two others who tried to break into a building before the residents raised an alarm.

Another suspect was lynched by the public in Ngong after he allegedly stole from a resident of Embulbul shopping centre.

Police reports indicate that the suspect was one of three people who attacked one Amos Odhiambo in his house and robbed him of a TV set, money and a decoder.

“The victim raised alarm and members of the public responded and cornered one of the suspects, stoned him to death before setting his body on fire,” police said.

The TV set was recovered and the charred remains of the suspect’s body were collected and taken to City Mortuary.
