Japan gives police 15 vehicles for patrol during Ticad summit

  • Japanese ambassador to Kenya Toshitsugu Uesawa said: “We are confident that these brand new vehicles will boost the ability of the police to respond swiftly to security incidents across Nairobi and prevent crime.”
  • The envoy also said that in providing the vehicles, Japanese personnel would not replace the role of the Kenya police because they are only meant to enable them to do their work effectively.

Japan has given 15 vehicles to Kenya police to be used for boosting security patrols during the Tokyo International Conference on Africa’s Development (Ticad), which starts on August 28.

The vehicles, valued at Sh43 million, were received by Deputy Inspector-General Joel Kitili at Vigilance House, the Kenya Police headquarters in Nairobi.

Japanese ambassador to Kenya Toshitsugu Uesawa said: “We are confident that these brand-new vehicles will boost the ability of the police to respond swiftly to security incidents across Nairobi and prevent crime.”

Mr Kitili said the vehicles would be deployed to city stations after the two-day conference.

It is the first time the conference is being held outside Japan.

The envoy also said that in providing the vehicles, Japanese personnel would not replace the role of the Kenya police because they are only meant to enable them to do their work effectively.
