Nairobi County Governor Evans Kidero has made changes to his cabinet, increasing the number of ministries from nine to 10.

The governor has split the ministry of Land, Housing and Planning into two, with the Urban Planning and Lands docket going to Mr Christopher Khaemba while Urban Renewal and Housing goes to Patrick Tom Odongo.

“This re-organisation involves structural and key personnel changes which will guarantee not only enhanced efficiency of the County Public Service but also ensure transparency and accountability of my staff in the discharge of their duties,” said Dr Kidero.

The governor also merged the Education ministry with ICT, Youth, Sports, Gender Affairs & Culture & Social Services, ICT & e-Government to be headed by Ms Anne Lokidor.

The other departments will remain intact.

Dr Kidero also shuffled his chief officers, with Ms Christine Ogut taking over the Environment, Energy, Water and Sanitation docket and a new office of Urban Renewal and Housing being taken over by Dr Leah Oyake-Ombis.

“These appointments take effect from today and all those affected are expected to report to their work stations immediately,” said Dr Kidero.

Last week, the governor appointed Dr Robert Ayisi as the new county secretary, but he did not make any changes in the office of the chief of staff even as Mr George Wainaina faces a graft case.

Dr Samuel Ochola replaces Dr Ayisi in the health docket.
