Kidero takes re-election campaign to Dagoretti, promises landslide win

Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero on Thursday took his re-election bid to his rival’s doorstep and promised a landslide win in the August elections.

Dr Kidero who exuded confidence that he will win the gubernatorial seat, used his administration’s development projects in Dagoretti South constituency to seek for his second term.

The ODM Governor traversed Dagoretti South constituency — whose Member of Parliament, Dennis Waweru, has vowed to unseat Dr Kidero — as he inspected the progress of projects he initiated back in 2014.

“I do not know what happens to you during election time… most of you is like your network gets lost once you get to the ballot paper…you only think of a Maina…Kamau or Njoroge…promise me that you will vote for me,” pleaded Dr Kidero.

The governor listed Muhuri road, upgrading of Mutuini hospital to Level 4, street lights and refurbishing the Waithaka Polytechnic as some of the projects he has undertaken in the area.

He said that the residents should choose him due to his development track record in the city.

Speaking at Mutuini Hospital, Dr Kidero said that he was the one behind the construction and equipping of the maternity wing in 2014. Over 1000 babies have been delivered at the facility since then, he said.

“I started the maternity ward in Mutuini Level Four hospital in 2014 and today we have baby number 1000 who has been named after me,” said Dr Kidero.

He also said that the county has budgeted for Sh4 billion to construct a 6-storey building and upgrade it to Level Five.

"The plans are ready and the budget is set aside but for the county to undertake such a huge project, it needs the approval from the national treasury. Tell your MP (Mr Waweru) to help me push for that approval,” urged Dr Kidero.

Consequently, he said his administration had improved the area’s security by putting up 74 floodlights and installation of CCTV cameras for surveillance.

He visited Waithaka Polytechnic where he urged the youths to enrol for technical courses arguing that this would enable them create employment opportunities for themselves and others.

"Only two students have registered for electrical engineering courses and I therefore urge you to embrace these technical courses and not leave the school to outsiders,” he advised as he revealed that the county had set aside Sh100 million for the construction of residential units for the institution’s students.
