MP unveils first ambulance for slum dwellers

Kibra MP Kenneth Okoth on Wednesday handed over a fully equipped ambulance to serve over 300,000 residents of the area, the first in the constituency.
The fully equipped ambulance was donated by the Mp through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
Speaking during the handing over at the Kibera DEO hospital, the sub-county medical officer for health Dr Sahara Mohammed said that the hospital had got reprieve as most of the patients suffer for lack of quick response.
Dr Mohammed said that the Kibera DEO hospital receives 24,000 outpatients yearly and had challenges in providing referral patients with transportation.
“The ambulance will ease the transport of patients to referral hospital which has been the major challenge in the slum,” said Dr Sahara.
Mr Okoth said that the ambulance will be used to provide emergency services across the day.
He said that insecurity in the area has been a hindrance for private vehicles to pick patients from their homes to hospital.

The Kibera DEO dispensary does not offer maternal health services despite being the oldest hospital with over 70 years.
