More dealers given nod to supply speed governors

More dealers will be allowed to sell digital speed governors hence removing the stain of exclusive control in the industry.

The directive follows complaints that the National Transport and Safety Authority had stopped issuing licences to new dealers, leaving the market to a monopoly of a few companies.

Some dealers also complained that new entrants were not getting any assistance from the Motor Vehicle Inspection Unit and Kebs.

“There is no caveat and those who wish to supply the governors can apply for a licence on condition they have a certificate of conformity and the standards mark,” Director of Motor Vehicle Inspection Gerald Wangai said.

There are 25 suppliers in the country. The digital speed governors were introduced because they are tamper proof unlike the conventional gadgets.
