Police kill 3 in botched robbery in Kayole, recover three pistols

Police Sunday morning shot and killed three suspects and recovered three firearms in a botched robbery in Kayole, Nairobi.

Kayole OCPD Ali Nuno said that officers engaged the gunmen at Mowlem along Kangundo Road and caught up with them in Obama estate where they were all shot dead and the three pistols recovered.

An inspector of police who was leading the operation was shot and injured in the hand by the gunmen, the OCPD said.

One of the firearms that was recovered, a Ceska pistol, had been stolen from an officer in Huruma in July.

Police received reports that the gang, driving in a stolen motor vehicle, was robbing pedestrians along Kangundo Road.

At least 12 suspects have been shot dead in the last four days and seven firearms recovered in separate incidents.

On Thursday morning, Flying Squad officers also recovered a pistol that had been issued to the former bodyguard to Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko who was shot dead in Kasarani on March 5, 2016.

Constable Bakari Tsuma Joto was walking home with his wife when he was confronted by a four-man gang, one of them armed with an AK47 rifle, who shot him in the forehead before taking away the firearm.

Constable Bakari had dropped the Senator in Gigiri and left for his residence in Mwiki where he met his death.
