Residents kill suspected robber, recover firearm

Daring members of the public attacked and killed a suspected robber and recovered a firearm belonging to Kenya Police Service on Sunday night in Kiambiu estate, Buruburu.

Nairobi County police Commander Japheth Koome confirmed the pistol belonged to the police but was yet to establish how it was stolen.

“The firearm is being kept at Shauri Moyo police station. We have circulated the details of the firearm to all the police stations and the Central Firearms Bureau,” he said.

Ms Jennifer Akinyi Were, a resident, said she raised the alarm after learning that three robbers were cutting the window grill of her neighbour’s house, after which members of the public responded and confronted them.

Two of the thugs escaped but one was beaten to death.

The body of the slain suspect was taken to City Mortuary.

“He was a very quiet man who rarely talked to people. No one would have suspected him,” said one of the residents.
