Several people were on Monday afternoon injured after a Citi Hoppa bus overturned on Valley Road near Integrity Centre.

The bus was heading to the city centre when the accident occured.

Eyewitnesses said the driver approached the corner at Integrity Centre at a high speed.

Those injured were given first aid by the Kenya Red Cross and Sarova Panafric Hotel employees, who were the first to reach the scene.

The critically injured were taken to the nearby Nairobi Hospital, while others were taken to Kenyatta National Hospital.

Police are yet to establish the actual number of those injured in the accident.

SPEED LIMIT

According to Edward Mwamburi, Nairobi's traffic commandant, the driver of the bus seemed to have been speeding, leading to the accident.

“I urge all drivers to maintain the stipulated speed limit for urban and built-up areas, which is 50kph that allows a driver to control the vehicle,” said Mr Mwamburi.

Calls for drivers in urban areas and trading centres to observe the stipulated 50kph speed limit were also made by Mathew Munyao, the director of road safety at the National Transport and Safety Authority.

“We want to remind Kenyans to observe all the road safety rules in order to be able to prevent such accidents on the roads,” said Mr Munyao.
