Security meeting held over Njiru skirmishes

A major security meeting has been planned in Njiru in Nairobi following skirmishes that have led to the deaths of at least two people and destruction of property of unknown value in the past three days.

Kayole OCPD Ali Nuno has said the representatives of warring parties will be meeting at the Njiru DC's office from 9am.

"We are yet to establish the extent of the damage and the number of victims so far," Mr Nuno said.

On Tuesday night, police officers were deployed in the area, with a police helicopter providing aerial support.

Police records indicate that Kamlesh Ouma and Stephen Ouma were shot on Tuesday, but Mr Stephen later succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at Mama Lucy Hospital.

After the attack, members of one community mobilised themselves and burnt down 16 iron-sheet structures.

While police were working to quell the disturbances at Matopeni, youths reorganised themselves and burnt down three other houses.

During the fracas, Joseph Matundura, a woman and a child were also injured.

MASON KILLED

Elsewhere in Nairobi, a mason was killed while two of his colleagues were seriously injured when a building under construction collapsed in Spring Valley on Tuesday evening.

According to Bajrang Constructors Ltd foreman Anthony Gitau, the three were pulled from the rubble but Joseph Ombuku Omboka was pronounced dead on arrival at Avenue Hospital.

The injured have been identified as Francis Akiduna and Victor Imbuka. Both are said to be in a stable condition, Gigiri OCPD Vitalis Otieno said
