Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua on Tuesday ejected Senator James Mungai’s personal assistant from his office during a courtesy call by a Senate committee.

The Senator’s PA, Joseph Omondi, had accompanied members of the Senate Committee on Roads and Transport for the courtesy call when the governor ordered him out.

Despite Mr Omondi’s plea that he was representing Mr Mungai, the governor would hear none of it and directed that he be escorted out of the meeting as he was not the Nakuru Senator.

‘’We cannot allow that because if all Senators were to be represented then it means we will not be having a meeting of elected leaders here,” the governor said.

Mr Mbugua told the PA that he could only stay if he was the senator.

This was the second time Mr Omondi was being ordered out of a meeting after the Senate Committee on ICT kicked him out last Thursday, June 4.

Differences between Mr Mbugua and Mr Mungai first flared up in the open on Madaraka Day when Senator Mungai threw the first salvo, accusing Mr Mbugua of having wrong priorities while utilising public funds for the benefit of Nakuru residents.

He said Mr Mbugua must come “back home” and be there to serve the people.

However, Mr Mbugua hit back, saying he had visited 52 wards to commission newly built projects among them classrooms, public markets, milk coolers while the county had unanimously voted to revive the pyrethrum sector.

Deputy Governor Joseph Ruto added that Mr Mbugua did not need the senator to solicit for votes as he had his own campaign strategy that would ensure him a smooth comeback come 2017.

“He never campaigned for us and we had our own campaign teams, and no one should cheat him we are relying on him for votes. Your task is to serve the people not to sit in the offices to receive visitors.

“Where has the senator been in the past two years and what input has Nakuru people seen him make in the Senate,” he posed.

On Tuesday, Mr Omondi remained calm and walked out of the office as the senators, county executives and journalists watched.
