Human rights activists in Baringo County have put pressure on security agencies to reveal the whereabouts of Mukutani Ward Member of County Assembly who was arrested on Friday for allegedly inciting the Ichamus and Tugen communities to violence.

Speaking in Nakuru Saturday, the activists accused police of playing games yet it was a serious matter involving human life.

Led by Mr Amos Olempaka, who is also the spokesman of the Ilchamus community, the activists said a herder from the Ilchamus community was butchered five days ago but no action was taken by the local administration.

According to Mr Olempaka, his head and private parts were chopped off resulting to the conflict between the Ilchamus and the Tugen communities which left three people dead.

“No local leader or security personnel visited the two area until the death of the three people,” said Mr Olempaka.

The MCA, Mr Renson Parkei, was arrested at Mpeyot in Marigat trading centre and was reportedly taken to Mogotio Police Station.

Mr Olempaka said that upon visiting Mogotio Police Station, he was informed that Mr Parkei had been transferred to Menengai Police Station in Nakuru, but police denied the same.

He asked security agencies to reveal the whereabouts of Mr Parkei, adding that his lawyers have made frantic efforts to locate him in vain.

Without mentioning specific names, Mr Olempaka blamed politicians for the fighting that occurred in the area and called on the leaders in the area to exercise restraint and preach peace among the warring communities.

“Some of the suspects behind the butchering of a middle-aged man in Mpeyot five days ago have since been mentioned but police seem to be doing little to apprehend them,” he added.

He said that senior people in the county government of Baringo and one from the national assembly were well aware of the situation in the volatile area adding that they should come out and clear their names.

Mr Olempaka called on the government to beef up security in the area.
