Four members of Parliament have called on Kenyans to observe peace and unity irrespective of their political and tribal affiliations.

Lawmakers Kimani Ngunjiri (Bahati), Samuel Arama (Nakuru Town West), John Kihagi (Naivasha) and John Ndirangu (Embakasi) said Nakuru is metropolitan county and it was therefore important for residents to co-exist in harmony.

The four were speaking at Jomo Kenyatta High School in Bahati during an Easter treat for students dubbed "chapatti forum", where they took part in preparing the meal.

“We are here to show you that we work together in matters of development despite our political affiliations.

“It is important to promote unity ahead of the forthcoming general elections,” said Mr Arama.

They said that if leaders had preached peace in 2007 and 2008, it would have been possible to avoid scenarios like the post-election skirmishes that happened then.

“The young people should be at the forefront in spearheading peace and cohesion starting from schools,” said Mr Ngunjiri.

Chapatti forums are an initiative aimed at boosting morale among students as they intermingle with successful people in the public eye.
