Four family members were on Tuesday crushed to death near Kibunja on Nakuru – Eldoret Highway after a truck ran over a motorcycle they were riding on.

The four, a man, his wife and two daughters were travelling from Jogoo to Kibunja before the overtaking truck ran over them killing them on the spot.

The lorry driver did not stop following the accident but was intercepted and arrested more than 20 kilometres away, at Salgaa Trading centre.

Salgaa traffic commander Mr Walter Kiptala, who confirmed the incident, said the driver will be charged with reckless driving and murder at the Molo Law Courts on Wednesday.

Mr Kiptala warned motorists especially truck drivers to respect traffic rules.

He said that is the responsibility of all road users to be alert while on the road to minimise accidents.

The stretch between Kamara-Kibunja, Sachagwan and Salgaa is famous for accidents, most of them fatal involving heavy trucks.

“Drivers and all road users should always respect the traffic rules so as to save lives of innocent people. You don’t have to do so only when you see a traffic officer,’ said Mr Kiptala.

“We have already arrested the suspect and will be taken to court after we complete our investigations,” he added.

The bodies were taken to the Molo District Hospital Mortuary.
