A group of Internally Displaced Persons has raised concern over security in areas prone to violence ahead of the repeat poll Thursday.

The group, which gathered in Nakuru on Tuesday urged the government to beef up security in the regions ahead of the repeat election on Thursday to avert any possible eruption of a post-election violence.

Led by Ms Lucy Njeri, the group said there is tension in the country and any possible violence should be averted.

“We would not wish to see other people going through what we have experienced for the last 10 years and we urge the government to protect its citizens especially in volatile regions such as Nyanza,” said Ms Njeri.

Mr Paul Mosipei, a forest evictees coordinator called on the National Super Alliance presidential candidate Raila Odinga to stop his election boycott call.

Mr Mospei warned that the “no reforms no elections” call are similar to the “no Raila no peace” one in 2007, which led to bloodshed.

On his part Mr Daniel Maina, an IDP coordinator from Nandi urged the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission to ensure it conducts the poll.

This according to him was the only solution to solve the perceived political crisis in the country.
