Veteran politician Koigi Wa Wamwere has announced that he is folding up his Chama Cha Mwananchi party to join the new Jubilee Party to be officially launched this weekend.

The former Subukia MP has also officially announced that he will contest for the Nakuru senate seat in the next general elections.

Speaking at Kokeb Hotel in Nakuru Wednesday morning, Mr Wamwere said his party will join other parties in forming the Jubilee Party, which he described as a unifying party.

“I am in the Nakuru senatorial race in 2017,” Mr Wamwere declared.

His declaration is expected to change the dynamics in the race for the Nakuru seat which has already attracted several aspirants.

OTHER CONTENDERS

Among the others eyeing the seat, currently held by Senator James Mungai, is county assembly Speaker Susan Kihika who has also launched strong grassroots campaigns to woo voters.

Prominent city lawyer and businessman Karanja Kabage, who this week acquired a gold membership certificate of the TNA party, is also eyeing the seat.

Mr Wamwere said that he reached the decision after consulting the Jubilee Party steering committee co-chairmen Senator Kiraitu Murungi and Dr Noah Wekesa.

He said he had confidence in the new party’s manifesto, describing it as party that will move the country forward and unite all Kenyans regardless of ethnic backgrounds.
