The management committee of the Nakuru Players Theatre has given a notice to the occupants of the facility’s foyer to vacate, citing misuse, two months after the renovation of the iconic playhouse.

According to the notice seen by Nation, the notice followed deliberations at a management committee and members meeting which resolved to terminate the tenancy.

Among the reasons given by the committee was carrying out of activities outside the designated agreed area of operation and allowing excessive noise and disturbance of peace at the facility.

“According to our contract agreement, the members invoked Article 20 of the contract agreement and you are hereby given one-month notice to vacate the premises.

“If you fail, the NPS will not be responsible [for] any item(s) in the said space if it is damaged,” read the notice signed by the secretary, Mr Abdul Fatahou Laye.

In May, thespians raised concerns over the mismanagement of the iconic facility a month after its commissioning following renovations done by the county government.

They said part of the theatre had been hired out to private business owners who have set a bar without respect to the nature of the institution.

Nakuru County Director of Culture and Social Services Alice Gekonde said her office is aware of the matter and promised to hold a meeting with the theatre management and the trustees.
