One dead, vehicles burnt in multiple accident along Mai Mahiu-Naivasha road

One person died Tuesday morning while four vehicles caught fire in an accident on the Maai Mahiu-Naivasha road.

The crash, which involved eight vehicles, among them a truck, made the road inaccessible, with police advising motorists to use the Naivasha-Nakuru highway.

The occupants of the four vehicles that caught fire were trapped inside but were later rescued.

According to the Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS), three people who sustained critical injuries were evacuated to the Naivasha District Hospital.

The KRCS added that the National Youth Service fire brigade was called in to contain the ensuing inferno that was spreading rapidly.

The person who died in the accident was burnt beyond recognition.

An eyewitness, Mr John Njenga, said it appeared that the brakes of a truck failed before the driver rammed into seven other vehicles.
