One killed, two injured in Naivasha land dispute

A herder was killed, two wounded and houses torched at Kosovo in Naivasha following a stand-off between two communities over land.

Naivasha Red Cross coordinator Felistus Kioko said the injured were shot by arrows and six houses were torched during the conflict between the Maasai and Kalenjin, which started on Saturday night at Ndabibi Farm

One of the injured was rushed to a hospital in Nakuru and the other to Naivasha.

“High ranked security officials and leaders are preparing to convene a meeting to chat the  way forward,” she said.

At the same time, Naivasha OCPD Titus Mathuku said the police are carrying out investigations and will apprehend the culprits.

“We are collecting intelligence report and going for those involved in the torching of houses and the killing,” said the Naivasha OCPD.

Ms Kioko further said the difficult terrain made accessibility to the area a big challenge. “We have to use four-wheel vehicles to reach the area which has a very poor road network,” she added.

The two communities are claim ownership of the expansive land belonging to the Agricultural Development Company (ADC).

Speaking over the phone, Naivasha sub-county assistant commissioner John Opondo said more security personnel was dispatched to restore clam.
