Farmers in Nakuru and Nyandarua counties have asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to help revive the pyrethrum industry.

Through the Pyrethrum Growers Association, the farmers urged the President to form a taskforce that will look into the challenges facing the industry in order to revive it.

“The government has bailed out coffee, miraa and sugarcane farmers.

"The same should be extended to pyrethrum growers,” the association’s chairman Justus Monda said.

He added that while agriculture is a devolved function, most county governments have not set aside funds to revive pyrethrum growing and processing.

“Pyrethrum farmers have nothing to celebrate in the four years of devolution,” Mr Monda said on Saturday.
