One arrested as police seize bhang worth Sh3m in Nakuru

Police in Bahati Nakuru County have seized bhang estimated to be worth Sh3 million.

The bhang, which is believed to have originated from Tanzania, was recovered in an isolated store in Kiamaina Village following a hint by residents.

Nakuru North Administration Police boss Francis Mwangi said it was reported on Wednesday evening and this prompted officers to launch an overnight operation in search of the substance.

“A member of the public volunteered to help the officers trace the house where the bhang had been stored,” said Mr Mwangi.

Mr Mwangi said one suspect found manning the store was arrested on Thursday morning.

MILLING MACHINE

A milling machine used to grind the substance and Tanzanian branded wrappers were also recovered from the store.

“After researching we have established that a single pack costs Sh50 and therefore the whole quantity could cost more than Sh3 million,” he said.

While thanking members of the public for volunteering information to the police, Mr Mwangi said that the officers will intensify patrols in order to curb crime in the area.

He said it is suspected that the bhang is sold to the locals and residents of Nakuru Town after being processed inside the isolated store.

“It is impressing to note that members of the public are embracing community policing,” he said.

He said that the suspect who is in police custody will be charged once they finalise investigations.
