Two arrested over murder of high school student in Subukia

Police in Nakuru have arrested two suspects in connection with the killing of a secondary school student at a shopping centre in Subukia over two weeks ago .

The two, aged between 25 and 35, were arrested at Free-Area estate in Nakuru where they have been hiding since the incident happened.

Subukia OCPD Alex Ng’ang’a said they have been pursuing the two suspects after they got information linking them with the murder.

“According to preliminary investigations, Mwangi and Njoroge were at the crime scene and immediately escaped after the shooting. We then started pursuing the two,” said Mr Ng’ang’a.

Alex Mwangi, an 18-year-old Form Four student at Maryland High School was shot dead by suspected robbers on February 8, 2017 as he left an M-Pesa shop, a few kilometres from Subukia Police Station.

The killing sparked protests by students and residents who demanded the immediate arrest of the killers.

According to locals, the armed criminals raided the M-Pesa shop at around 7pm after successfully robbing a chemist.

Mr Ng’ang’a said the two suspects will be arraigned in court.
