What you need to know:

  • In 2013 President Uhuru Kenyatta got a considerable number of votes from the region.
  • Mr Odinga and his team will lead the hunt among the populous Purko sub-tribe.
  • Mau forest politics is also expected to be at the centre of the campaign rally.

The National Super Alliance (Nasa) is for the second day in Narok County to hunt for votes ahead of the August 8 general election.

Nasa is riding on Maasai land rights, historical injustices, marginalisation and the freshly launched manifesto with the hope to flip the region into its corner in the August election.

In 2013 President Uhuru Kenyatta got a considerable number of votes from the region but came second after the opposition which garnered more votes.

Mr Odinga, his running mate Kalonzo Musyoka, co-principals Musalia Mudavadi, Isaac Ruto and Moses Wetang’ula, will lead the hunt among the populous Purko sub-tribe at Ngosuani market and later at Olchorro in Narok North before holding a mega rally at Narok Stadium in Narok Town in the afternoon.

BOMET RALLY

On Friday, Mr Odinga will complete his three-day tour of the South Rift region with a rally in Bomet County.

In his first day of the tour, Mr Odinga was in his element throwing barbs at the Jubilee government for failing to fulfil its promises.

He also raised the question land ownership by Deputy President William Ruto in Transmara and took issue with mismanagement of proceeds from the Maasai Mara Game Reserve.

He also took the opportunity to lash out at governors gravitating towards Jubilee in the pretence of seeking development and called on supporters to adopt a six-piece voting pattern.

LAND ISSUES

At the Naroosura Rally in Narok West on Wednesday, Mr Odinga promised residents that if elected, his administration will resolve land grievances and establish a compensation scheme to cushion pastoralists during times of drought.

The NASA leaders also accused the Jubilee administration of failing to implement the Truth Justice and Reconciliation Commission (TJRC) report that sought to address historical injustices meted on the communities.

Purko clan politics are expected to dominate the rallies following a failed unity test after Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) gubernatorial candidate Patrick Ntutu and ODM candidate for the seat Joseph Tiampati ole Musuni failed to agree on who among them should shelve his bid and support the other to face the incumbent Samuel ole Tunai of Jubilee.

Mau forest politics is also expected to be at the centre of the campaign rally with Narok North MP Moitalel ole Kenta maintaining it is only a Nasa government that has the key to the conservation and restoration of the water tower.
