Two teenagers have been accused of raping and killing a nine-year girl in Laikipia Central.

The incident took place on Sunday afternoon at Kahuruko Village of Lamuria Location, Laikipia Central District.

The Standard Two pupil was returning home from church in the company of her mother when the two boys allegedly pounced on her, raping and killing her.

“The girl went to a bush to relieve herself as her mother walked ahead.

"On reaching home, the mother realised that her daughter had taken too long and went back for her,” area Administration Police boss Ndegwa Githinji said.

BOYS FOUND AT THE SCENE

On arriving at the scene, she found her daughter sprawled on the ground while bleeding from her mouth and private parts. The two boys, aged 15 and 16, who were her neighbours, were standing beside her.

One of the boys is a Form One student at Nyakio Secondary School, while the other is a school dropout.

The woman raised the alarm and the two fled.

Members of the public arrested the teenagers, one of them from the top of a tree where he was hiding, and handed them over to police.

Villagers wanted to lynch the boys, but police officers stopped them.

“The girl was pronounced dead on arrival at Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital.

"They had raped her, twisted her neck and then clobbered her with a blunt object, leaving her for dead,” Mr Githinji said.

He said the suspects were taken to the hospital for medical examinations and later locked up at Ngobit Police Station for further investigation.
