Akorino Church say schools discriminating against its followers

Akorino Church followers in Nyandarua have raised concern about what they say is discrimination against their children in schools.
The church has appealed to the government to investigate schools sending Akorino learners away because they wear turbans.
An Akorino cleric has claimed that Nyandarua West Primary School sent home a 13-year-old boy and instructed him to return without his headgear.
However, the school’s management has since denied the claim.
“The boy has been away from school for a week,” Bishop Jeremiah Kariuki of the Akorino Church of Israel said.
DISMISSED CLAIM
But Ephraim Wachira, the school’s headteacher, dismissed the claim.
“We only requested him to wear a yellow turban since our uniform is of the same colour. The issue was blown out of proportion by the parents,” he told the Nation by phone.
Bishop Kariuki said a pupil was ejected from another school in Ol-Kalou for the same reason, but was readmitted after education officials intervened.
Meanwhile, Nyandarua Woman Representative Wanjiku Muhia has criticised “discrimination” against Akorino children, saying she would follow up the matter and get a list of the schools alleged to be involved in the discrimination.
